Lazy special editions. Slap some special paint, black trim, wheels and badges and call it a day. “The Japanese manufacturer says the PMC Edition is inspired by the “the unique capabilities” of its Ohio-based bespoke Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC). The biggest highlight of the limited-edition sports sedan is that it will be produced by the same technicians that hand-assemble the NSX supercar.” WOW! how exciting! $5000 over the regular one for this:
Exclusive to TLX PMC Edition
Valencia Red Pearl nano pigment paint
Unique PMC Edition numbered serial plaque
Gloss black 19-inch split-5-spoke wheels with black lug nuts
Gloss black roof panel
Gloss black door handles
Gloss black diamond pentagon grille with body-colored grille surround
Dual 4-inch black chrome exhaust finishers
Premium black Milano leather seats with Alcantara™ inserts, black piping and red stitching
Perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching and paddle shifters
Red stitching on door panel, center console, and armrest
Premium floormats with metal A-Spec badging
ZERO mechanical changes. At least put an Intake/Exhaust/tune on it. PMC my ass. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Look for keywords “*Spec” or “*Line” for a red flag that “We didn’t really do anything to this car except wheels and moldings.”
I realized yesterday how sick I was of OE gray and black wheels when I saw a C-Class Mercedes with gray wheels and then I realized it was just the thickest layer of brake dust I’d ever seen.

This is a regular TLX A-spec in red. Does it look $5K better?
Plus the TLX looks better in Blue anyway IMO

That should be a law, or something. You can’t call something a “sport” or “performance” edition unless you’ve added power and/or improved handling.

Outside of some specific models, the word has lost all meaning in the automotive industry today. It signifies nothing more than a trim line nowadays.

Its a sharp looking car, but i agree that $5k is way too much for an aesthetics package.

Yeah. It’s very sad.
I’ve been casually looking at Cadillac ATS as they are one of the cars on my list, and I was initially excited to learn there was a “Performance” trim. I was then immediately disappointed when I learned it consists of things like 10 way power seats and a bigger infotainment screen, and no actual performance upgrades. If anything it’s more crap which means more weight, which would decrease performance.

That NSX red is spectacular, but do we really need a special “hand built” edition TLX before it’s redesigned? No. It’s crap car before and this doesn’t change it. Give us a special performance Accord instead, it’s a better car anyway. /rant

But this is on par with Honda going back to the A-spec which started in 2004. All it was, was a suspension mod that supposedly was tougher. This is the same as the 8th gen Si Mu ge n. Weird looking aero, some suspension (not really), wheels, and a exclusive paint that was only on the Si for 2 years. Nothing drive train wise even though they had a supercharger at the time.
That Red though looks amazing but thats about it for Honda, unless its Type-S or Type-R dont come looking for anything above the normal.

Instead, Acura will announce the new TLX PMC Type-R.
Which will feature Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
Yes, t hat’s the only change.

I should have added the caveat that consumables like tires don’t count.

Oh, of course they don’t count. You missed the real ridiculousness.
Acura TLX PMC Type-R .
Badges have gotten that utterly meaningless. It’s genuinely scary when the only manufacturer where the badge matters any more is Porsche. Because seriously have you fucking seen the upcharge just for GTS?

Oh no, I got it. The thing is, you’re so right on that it seems more like prophecy than a joke.
And agreed on badges. Though I still grumble about how BMW and Mercedes numbering systems don’t mean anything anymore. Let alone all the Type S’s and Rs and wh a tnot.

Seriously. And this is a fairly recent development.
Take Jeep for example. If your Grand Cherokee had an ‘Overland’ badge, you knew you had a 5.7 V8, QT2, and basically every option under the sun. If you bought a Limited, you knew it had V8 minimum. If you bought a Laredo, you got the cloth interior and the V6.
Now there’s Laredo. Laredo E. Upland. Altitude. Limited. Limited X. Overland. High Altitude. Summit. (I’m excluding the special ones.)
Every last one of those is just a damn option package that can be configured like nearly any other! You can basically option an Overland exactly like a Summit so you can get non-Summit colors. Or a Limited X like a Summit. And so on.
Used to be these things meant something . If you had a Daytona IROC, well, the whole world was laughing at your 140HP V6 slushbox. Make that an IROC R/T, and only the blind or stupid would tangle with that Turbo III / Getrag combo. BMW 318i, nobody gives a shit. BMW 318is? Now we’re getting somewhere. 320iS? That’s the good stuff! Now? Fuck, BMW may as well just stick random letters after the numbers.

I mean, the paint is a $7500 option on it’s own, and it can only be applied at PMC. Technically, you’re getting a good deal when it comes to material and labour costs. If you don’t like the car that’s one thing, but compare it to all the countless black editions all the other manufactures make, that are just cheap tacked on black parts, this isn’t so bad in comparison.
